About Cao Weijun

Cao Weijun (曹伟俊) is a contemporary Jian ware artisan from Fujian Province
whose work combines traditional Jian Zhan techniques with bold modern glaze effects.
He is recognized as a mid-level arts and crafts master and a second-level
national technician.

Cao is associated with Hualong Jian Zhan (华隆建盏), where
his work explores the interaction between traditional iron-rich Jian ware
bodies and highly expressive crystalline glazes.

His pieces are particularly known for vivid peacock-inspired surfaces,
oil-drop crystallization, partridge patterns and colorful kiln effects.
These glazes can range from deep blues and greens to gold, red and
iridescent tones that shift dramatically under changing light.

Hualong Jian Zhan

Cao Weijun is the founder of the Hualong Jian Zhan brand.
His workshop produces both traditional drinking bowls and contemporary
tea ware in a wide variety of shapes.

In addition to individual Jian Zhan cups, works attributed to Cao include
gaiwan, fairness pitchers, tea strainers and complete tea sets. His
Hongfu (鸿福) series is one example of his work extending
beyond the traditional bowl format into coordinated tea-service pieces.
