About Master Xie Zhensheng (谢贞生)
Xie Zhensheng, born in March 1981 in Jianyang, Nanping, Fujian, is a renowned ceramic artist and a key figure in the contemporary revival of Jianzhan artistry. In 2014, he was recognized as a Fujian Provincial Ceramic Art Master and inherited the craft of “Jian Kiln Jianzhan Firing Techniques”, a registered intangible cultural heritage.
As a member of several prestigious organizations, including the China Arts and Crafts Association and the China Ceramic Art Development Center, Master Xie has received national acclaim for his innovative and expressive tea bowls. His works often explore new glaze effects like “Rainbow Mist,” “Heavenly Eyes,” and “Cicada Wings.”
Over the years, his pieces have been showcased and awarded at major exhibitions across China, Macau, and abroad, with some entering prominent museum collections. His 2022 piece “Celestial Rabbit Covered Bowl” received the Gold Award at the first “China Dream – Mountains and Seas” Fine Folk Art Exhibition in Nanping.
Master Xie’s studio continues to push the boundaries of Jianzhan, blending tradition with modern artistic interpretation. His iconic wood kiln firings often yield one-of-a-kind effects, representing both technical mastery and poetic beauty. Among his best-known series are Rainbow Mist, Cicada Wing, and Heavenly Eye.
Master Xie Zhensheng’s works can also be found at regional street markets and exhibitions, offering collectors a rare glimpse into the evolution of a time-honored craft.
