About Lü Meifang 吕美芳
Lü Meifang is a respected artisan born into a lineage of Jian ware (Jianzhan) masters, carrying forward a family tradition deeply rooted in the culture of black-glazed ceramics.
As a Master of Jian Zhan Craft and Aesthetics, her works have been acquired by numerous museums, and she has been honored with multiple awards in both national and international ceramic arts competitions.
Signature Glazes
Her studio, operating under the name Hongzhen Wenhua (弘臻文化), is known for producing uniquely vivid Jianzhan glazes. One of her most renowned creations is the “Jade-Colored Divine Stone” (玉彩神石), a mesmerizing glaze featuring iridescent purples, blues, and silvery circles—like crystals blooming from the surface.
Another standout is the glaze named “Above the Clouds” (云巅之上), featuring large, petal-like crystallizations reminiscent of peony blossoms emerging through layers of cloud—clear, distinct, and bold.
Craftsman Spirit
Her philosophy is grounded in what she calls the “Craftsman Spirit”: persistence, discipline, and authenticity. “My spirit as a craftswoman is to persist—persist, and persist again,” she writes. “Only by sticking to traditional materials, original ores, and ancient formulas, can we innovate while preserving the soul of Jian ware.”
“The beauty of Jian ware lies in the spirit of its makers. Real innovation can only come from a deep respect for tradition.”
