Xie Aihua
谢爱华Contemporary Jian Zhan · rabbit-hair and wood-fired glaze research
Biography
Xie Aihua (谢爱华) is a contemporary Jian Zhan maker whose published biography records her entry into Jian Zhan firing in 2012. By 2018 she had spent several years refining body preparation, glazing and firing, with rabbit-hair surfaces becoming a particularly strong part of her work.
Rabbit-Hair Work
Xie Aihua is especially associated with 兔毫 and silver-toned rabbit-hair Jian Zhan. In these bowls, narrow crystalline streaks develop through the dark glaze during firing, producing the vertical or radiating pattern that gives the traditional glaze family its name.
Wood-Fired Partridge Work
Fujian Ceramic Industry Association competition records also connect Xie Aihua with Huang Xiaolong 黄小龙 on a work titled 柴烧鹧鸪斑, or wood-fired partridge-pattern Jian Zhan, which received an excellence award in a Minyi Cup competition. This broadens the documented range of her practice beyond rabbit hair.
Identification
As with other contemporary Jian Zhan, the strongest attribution comes from the combination of foot, mark, body, glaze, certificate and provenance rather than surface appearance alone.
