Xie Zhensheng
谢贞生Yuxi 御曦 · contemporary Jian Zhan glaze research and named series
Biography
Xie Zhensheng (谢贞生), born in March 1981 in Jianyang, Fujian, is a contemporary Jian Zhan artist associated with the Yuxi (御曦) brand and a broad body of modern crystalline glaze work. Published biography records that he began formal study under Xie Songqing (谢松青) in 2014.
In 2018 he established a Jian Zhan ceramic development company under the Yuxi name, and in 2022 he established the Xie Zhensheng studio. His later work combines traditional Jian materials with strongly colored, high-contrast contemporary glaze development.
Representative Series
Documented series and named works include 七彩 / 彩虹盏, 天颜, 千寻, 龙曜, 天尊莲, 暶日 and 宋影柴烧. The names are contemporary studio terms, but they are useful for connecting individual pieces with certificates and exhibition records.
Practice & Firing
Xie’s work is particularly recognizable for vivid iridescence and strongly separated crystalline structures that shift under changing light. His documented practice includes both controlled contemporary firing and wood-fired work, allowing a wide range of color and texture within the Jian Zhan format.
Awards & Collections
Published biography records a substantial sequence of competition awards and institutional collections across the late 2010s and early 2020s. His dated works, competition results and museum records document the development of his career.
Identification
Yuxi branding, the artist’s name and maker marks should be considered together with the vessel, certificate, box and provenance. Highly colorful kiln-transformation effects are not unique to one maker.
