Biography

Wu Zhoufu (吴周福), born in November 1975 in Houjing Village, Shuiji, Jianyang, grew up in the historic Jian kiln region and developed an early interest in surviving Jian ware. Published profiles describe him collecting and studying older bowls before beginning formal firing study.

In September 2010 he began studying Jian Zhan under Xu Jiayou (许家有). In 2011 he established the Fulao Jian Zhan Ceramics Factory (福佬建盏陶瓷厂), where he developed his own glaze and firing practice.

Oil Spot & 金丝万缕

Wu Zhoufu is particularly associated with large-spot oil-drop Jian Zhan and with surfaces described as 金丝万缕, where fine gold-toned streaks and crystalline structures spread over a dark ground. People’s Daily / Xinhua photographic reporting documented him with this work in 2019.

Patent & Technical Work

Wu Zhoufu is the inventor named on Chinese patent CN111848120B, titled 《金缕建盏制备工艺》. Filed in 2020 and granted in 2022, the patent documents a specific preparation and firing process for the 金缕 surface and provides primary technical evidence for this part of his practice.

Recognition & Heritage

Published biographies record awards for Wu Zhoufu’s Jian Zhan during the 2010s and the collection of a modern oil-drop work by Nanping Museum. He was recognized at the Jianyang district level as a representative inheritor of the Jian kiln / Jian Zhan firing technique.
