Ni Chenxi
倪晨曦Jian Zhan artist · Yaobian and crystalline iron-glaze work
Biography
Ni Chenxi (倪晨曦) is a contemporary Jian Zhan ceramic artist associated with Jianyang. His work centers on iron-rich Jian bodies and kiln-developed crystalline surfaces.
Glazes & Surface Work
Current market documentation under Ni’s name includes Yaobian 曜变 Jian Zhan, silver oil-drop work and pieces combining Jian Zhan glaze with lacquer or decorative finishing. The surviving photographs show a broad range of metallic, iridescent and crystalline surfaces.
Practice
Ni’s work uses the interaction of mineral glaze, iron-rich body, kiln atmosphere and temperature to create pattern and color. These effects are produced in firing rather than painted onto the glaze, so individual pieces naturally vary.
Marks & Identification
Certificates, base marks and complete vessel photographs should be used together for attribution, especially because similar Yaobian and oil-drop effects are made by other contemporary artists.
