Biography
Liu Jun (刘军) is a Jian Zhan ceramic artist from Shuiji in Jianyang, the historic center of Jian kiln black ware. His practice follows the material and firing vocabulary of contemporary Jian Zhan, using local iron-rich clay and natural mineral glaze.
Making
His documented process is described as a sequence of more than forty steps, from clay preparation and forming through glazing and the final kiln transformation. The finished work emphasizes simple, functional bowl forms and crystalline patterns that emerge during firing.
Local Practice
Liu Jun works within Jianyang’s independent artisan community, and his bowls are encountered through local circulation and street-market sales rather than through a large studio identity. The phrase “用心传承,精心制作” accompanies his work, expressing careful continuation and making.
