He Zhiyin
何志银Jian Zhan maker · 天福缘龙窑 · hand-thrown wood-fired work
Biography
He Zhiyin (何志银) is a Jian Zhan maker from Jianyang associated with Tianfuyuan Dragon Kiln (天福缘龙窑). He began with an interest in collecting and studying ceramics before committing himself to making, and his practice is built around hand-thrown forms, natural mineral materials and demanding wood-fired dragon-kiln work.
His professional titles include Senior Arts & Crafts Artist and ceremonial-gift artist. In 2021, one of his tea cups was selected for ceremonial gifting, and his work has also appeared in exhibitions and museum collections.
Materials & Wood Firing
He works with ceramic clay, red glaze mineral and plant ash. His dragon kiln is fired continuously for about two days, with temperature rising to roughly 1300°C. A kiln load may contain four to five thousand blanks yet yield only a few hundred finished pieces, illustrating the severe selection inherent in this firing method.
Hand Throwing
He is also known for insisting on hand throwing his own vessels. He forms wall thickness directly on the wheel and minimizes later cutting or correction. This approach makes the thrown form itself, not only the glaze, part of his artistic identity.
Works & Visual Language
His glaze work is often described through natural imagery such as mist, flowing water and mountains while retaining the compact forms of Jian ware. The 承宋 series is one of his named bodies of work and has entered museum collections.
Marks & Identification
The 志银作 maker mark and Tianfuyuan Dragon Kiln identity appear on his work.
