About Fan Dafu

Fan Dafu (范大富), born in 1988, grew up in Houjing Village in Shuiji, Jianyang, in a family connected with Jian ware. After graduating from Guangdong Industry Polytechnic in 2011, he returned to Houjing and began learning restoration and Jian Zhan firing with family members. Later that year he formally became a disciple of Li Ximei 李细妹.

Practice & Glazes

Fan’s early successful firing with Li Ximei was an oil-drop bowl, and oil-drop Jian Zhan became an important part of his practice. His documented representative work includes 黑底晶斑, a black-ground crystal-pattern Jian Zhan with clearly layered silvery spotting. He has also worked with 托底烧, a method that extends the glazed surface across the bottom of the vessel.

Selected Works & Recognition

Documented awards include a 2016 gold award for 鹧鸪斑孔雀开屏, a 2017 bronze award for 金丝兔毫盏, and a 2017 bronze award for 仿古油滴大撇口. In December 2023, Fan Dafu was named to Jianyang District’s fifth group of representative inheritors for the craft of Jian kiln Jian Zhan making.
