About Chen Ke

Chen Ke is a Jian Zhan artist from Shuiji Town in Jianyang, Fujian. He studied at Jingdezhen Ceramic University and built his practice through more than fifteen years of ceramic firing, placing technical experimentation at the center of his work.

His development as a maker has been driven by repeated glaze trials. Rather than relying on one established formula, Chen has worked through large numbers of tests involving clay, glaze composition and firing conditions in pursuit of his own surface language.

This combination of formal ceramic education and persistent kiln work places his practice firmly within the modern Jian Zhan revival: rooted in the iron-rich materials of Jianyang, but shaped by individual research and contemporary glaze design.

Glaze Research & Practice

Chen Ke’s work is especially associated with glaze development. The kiln is treated as an active part of the creative process, with temperature, atmosphere, glaze thickness and cooling all contributing to the finished surface.

That experimental approach appears in a group of named works rather than one single signature glaze.
