Bai Bingyou 白炳友
Jianyang District Representative Inheritor · Jian Ware Artist
About the Artist
Bai Bingyou (白炳友) is a Jian ware artist and Jianyang District representative inheritor of Jian kiln and Jian ware firing technique. His practice combines traditional Jian ware firing with sustained study of vessel form, throwing, glaze effects, and wood firing.
In 2008, Bai began studying with Fujian provincial representative inheritor Xu Jiayou (许家有). In 2017, he further studied wheel-throwing with national skills master Zhan Shaolin (占绍林), strengthening the forming side of his ceramic practice.
Practice & Research
Bai has written about the practical and aesthetic qualities of Jian ware, including vessel proportion and form, and has also published research on wood-firing technique. His documented works include rabbit-hair Jian ware as well as larger ceramic forms and tea wares.
Recent design records connect Bai with the Bailuyuan Jian Ware Ceramic Studio (白鹿塬建盏陶瓷工作室). A 2025 registered design for the 六合流香 gaiwan names Bai as the designer.
Selected Recognition
Documented awards include a gold award for 蓝兔毫盏 (Blue Rabbit-Hair Bowl) at the 2014 Xiamen cultural fair, a silver award for 乌金隐毫 in 2015, a gold award for 建窑玉壶春瓶 in 2015, and a gold award for 孔雀翎束口盏 in 2016.
