About the Artist: Zhu Qiu Min
Zhu Qiu Min (朱秋敏), a 26th-generation descendant of Zhu Zi (朱子, also known as Zhu Xi)—the renowned Song Dynasty philosopher whose teachings helped shape Chinese tea culture and aesthetics—is a highly esteemed Jianzhan artist dedicated to preserving the traditional art of Jian ware ceramics. His works have been collected by numerous prestigious galleries, reflecting his influence and recognition in the world of fine ceramics.
As a senior ceramic technician and Master of Handicrafts in Fujian Province, Zhu Qiu Min embodies the spirit and discipline of ancient craftsmanship. At his Long Kiln studio, he insists on a fully handcrafted process, from sourcing natural mineral glazes to firing with traditional wood-fired kilns.
Every step in his meticulous workflow is executed with precision and passion—from selecting and crushing raw materials, washing and aging the clay, to shaping, trimming, bisque firing, glazing, kiln loading, and the final wood-fired firing. He even tailors the firing process by adjusting the type and moisture content of the wood to achieve the ideal finish.
