Wu Danli

About the Artist: Wu Danli (吴丹砾)

Wu Danli is a Jianzhan ceramic artist from Shuiji, Jianyang—an area renowned as the historic heart of black-glazed ware. With deep roots in this traditional craft, Wu Danli creates pieces that embody both the legacy of Song Dynasty Jian ware and a distinct personal vision.

The artist works under the studio name Longke Kiln (龙科窑), a signature that appears on the base of many of their pieces. This name represents not just a workshop but a philosophy—melding time-honored techniques with modern precision and artistry.

Wu Danli’s works are formed from iron-rich Jianyang clay and natural mineral glazes, then fired under exacting conditions to reveal the unique textures, metallic blooms, and crystal patterns that define fine Jianzhan. Each piece is a balance of strength and delicacy, simplicity and complexity.

Collectors can find Wu Danli’s creations through selected outlets and among curated pieces at Jianyang’s local street markets. The seal 龙科窑制 (“Made by Longke Kiln”) assures authenticity and links each work back to the artist’s dedicated practice.
