About the Artist: Master Wang Li Qing
Master Wang Li Qing is a respected ceramic artist and cultural inheritor of the ancient Jianzhan tradition. With decades of dedication to her craft, she is known for mastering the demanding balance of earth, fire, and timing that defines this Song Dynasty artform.
Her creations reflect not just technical mastery, but deep philosophical insight—each vessel an exploration of light within darkness, form within emptiness. Her work is infused with reverence for tradition, yet alive with personal expression.
Master Wang is also the mother of fellow ceramic artist Wang Jing, continuing a lineage of craftsmanship and artistic spirit through generations. Together, their works represent a living dialogue between past and future, parent and child, fire and clay.
The Art of Earth and Fire — Jianzhan
Jianzhan, also known as Tianmu porcelain, is one of the eight great folk porcelains of the Song Dynasty. It is revered in the tea world as “the only teaware born specifically for tea,” and in ceramics as “a masterful fusion of earth and fire—crafted with exceptional difficulty.”
At first glance, a Jianzhan may appear deep and black, but within its surface lies a quiet cosmos. This darkness is not emptiness—it holds moisture, mystery, and the transformative essence of nature. Every cup is a philosophy rendered in clay, shaped by flame, and meant to be held.
Through her hands, Master Wang Li Qing invites us to sip not only tea, but the stillness, beauty, and lineage of a thousand years.
