About the Artist — 宁吉 (Ning Ji)
Ning Ji (宁吉) is a contemporary ceramic artist from Jianyang, Fujian, known for her dedication to the traditional techniques of Jian ware while bringing a refined and distinctive artistic sensibility to her work. Her ceramics reflect both a reverence for heritage and a personal, modern interpretation of this ancient craft.
She is especially recognized for her skillful use of the 油滴 (You Di) glaze — known in English as Oil-Spot glaze — creating pieces that capture shimmering, crystalline patterns against rich, dark surfaces. This glaze, historically prized for its depth and complexity, remains a signature feature of her work, celebrated for both its beauty and its evolving character through use.
Through precise kiln work and a deep understanding of Jianyang’s traditional firing methods, Ning Ji produces tea ware that not only honors the past but continues to evolve with every cup of tea. Her works are designed to enrich through time, following the principle of 养杯 (Yǎng Bēi) — nurturing the cup through daily use.
Each piece by Ning Ji carries her personal signature and typically includes a collector’s certificate for authenticity.
