About the Artist – Luo Zhen
罗真 is a nationally certified senior Longyao (Dragon Kiln) firing technique artist, as well as a provincial-level senior ceramic arts and crafts master. He is based in Shuiji Town, Jianyang, Fujian Province, a historic center for traditional Jian ware production.
Background and Experience
Luo Zhen is a retired military veteran from Nanping who has dedicated his post-service career to preserving and advancing Longyao firing techniques. Since the 1980s, he has worked in ceramic production, specializing in hand-throwing and wood-firing processes. Over decades of practice, he has gained rich experience in restoring and mastering traditional dragon kiln firing methods.
Style and Techniques
Working with iron-rich clay and raw ore glaze, Luo Zhen produces pieces that reflect the ancient heritage of Jian ware. His work often features distinctive carved and textured details, with glazes that showcase the depth and variation achievable through wood-fired dragon kiln methods. The craftsmanship embodies both precision and the natural beauty of traditional materials.
