Chen Jianxiong is celebrated for his mastery of highly complex, multi-colored kiln transformations. Each cup shifts in appearance with changes in light and angle, making every piece unique and impossible to replicate.

Traditional Craftsmanship

Following the 13-step Jian ware process, from selecting and aging local minerals to hand-forming and high-temperature firing, Chen Jianxiong’s work emphasizes the warmth of human craftsmanship over factory precision. Each piece reveals slight variations in form, glaze, and texture — the charm of true handmade Jian ware.

Cultural Recognition

Jian Zhan was recognized in 2011 as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage of China (No. VIII-188). Chen’s work continues this heritage from its birthplace in Shuiji Town, Jianyang. His pieces reflect not only technical mastery but the legacy of Song dynasty imperial tea culture and centuries-old kiln secrets.
