Support the Cup Community
Fifty Shades of Clay was created out of love for Jian Zhan… the artists, the history, the kiln science, and the collector community that formed around them.
This site is independently run and fully funded by me as a collector. I do not sell cups, take commissions from hosts, or charge artists to be featured. My goal is simple: preserve information, promote transparency, and celebrate the craft.
If this website has helped you learn, discover a new master, verify a stamp, understand firing methods, or simply feel less alone in your collecting journey… you’re welcome to support its growth.
Where Your Support Goes
Donations help cover:
• Website hosting, security, and domain fees
• Translation tools and software used to translate between English and Chinese
• AI-assisted translation programs to improve clarity and cross-cultural understanding
Translation is especially important. Many masters do not speak English, and many collectors do not read Chinese. I use digital tools to help bridge that gap and ensure the information shared here remains respectful and accurate.
Every contribution helps keep this resource independent and community-focused.
Why I Built This
Many of us found cups during difficult seasons of life. What started as admiration for glaze turned into friendships, shared research, and meaningful conversations across cultures.
This website exists to:
• Protect new collectors through education
• Give proper credit to artists
• Preserve accurate information
• Build bridges between American and Chinese communities
Transparency matters. Respect matters. The craft matters.
Thank You
Whether you donate, share the site, or simply read and learn… thank you for being part of this cup family.
Your support helps keep the kiln burning. 🔥
